Cactus & Quail . . . Poetry or Painting?

Cactus & Quail

“Cactus & Quail” was inspired by my love for Arizona.   This colorful 12 x 12 inch original oil painting packs pure, bright hues, purposefully placed with a palette knife.  Leonardo da Vinci said, "Painting is poetry that is seen rather than felt, and poetry is painting that is felt rather than seen."    I felt Arizona when I worked on this one.   I tried to capture the warmth of the sun, a brilliant blue sky, the stunning southwestern colors and beautiful desert cactus blooms on canvas.   Arizona quail also appeal to me, because they look like they are dressed for special occasion, wearing a fancy hat with a plume.   It’s as if they are reminding me that every day is a special occasion; encouraging me to wear whatever I have well.
